monasteries again deserve special notice on account of their complete ness and excellent organization and cosmopolitan nature of the Ideals
The Jama monasteries were widely distributed all over India and in their distribution the influence of geographical factors are cicarly perceptible We give below an illustrative list of the outstanding monasteries in India In Bengal Pundravardhana 15 and the then coastal city of Tāmralıpta 10 (now Tamluk an obscure sub-division of Midna pur district in Bengal) as well as Champaka"and RajagȚha" in Magadha were important centres of Jaina culture and learning Benares 16 Sravastı 30 Alabhiya (Alora) Manivaiya > Kampılya ** (Kampıl in Farokhabad Dist.
