(vii) umalai village-Polur taluk, North Arcot district. Copper idol of CHANDRAPRABHA. fr. Ir. 1927. Seated in d'yana en bhadrisena and against a back ground formed by a circular prabhavali, the latter showing in elegant juxta position mukkodai, diksha vrksha, bhamandala, and flanking chamaradharas. Though lañchhana is not found, the image according to the local tradition is called Chandraprabha.
(viii) MAHAVIRA, locality unknown. A bronze statuette of rather crude workmanship, with its locality unknown represents Mahāvīra with the lañchhana, lion on the pedestal, between two other similar lions-all in frontal pose. The god is shown sitting in dhyana against a back piece with flanking attendants depicted on it in relief. The back pieces recall Pāla models and the whole, with its history unknown may be either from East India or executed after East Indian model.
(b). RECENT FIND OF JAINA BRONZES IN NORTH KANARA DISTRICT
In the course of the historical and manuscript survey of the Bhatkal Petha (North Kanara district) in February 1940 a large find of Jaina bronzes was secured at Haduvalli, Kaikini and Bhatkal. This part was once subject to the rule of Jaina chieftains from the Alupas down to the late Vijayanagara period and there are a number of Jaina vestiges in this tract. The basadis are at
