INHERITANCE AND PARTITION.
पित्रोः सत्वे न शकः स्यात् स्थावर जंगमं तथा । विविक्रियं गृहीतुवा कतु पैतामहं च सः॥५८॥
In the life-time of the parents, he (the adopted son) bas no porer to hold or sell the moveable and imunoreable property of the father and mother and of the grand-father.
पैतामहकमायाते द्रव्येऽनधिकृतिः स्मृता । श्वशुरस्य निजे कृत्ये व्ययं कर्तुं च सर्वथा ॥ ५९॥
In property acquired by the father-in-law or descended from his ancestors, the son's widow is said to have no right to meet her personal expenses rhatsoever. • सुताशया विना भक्तेऽभक्ते तु धर्मकर्मणि ।
मैत्रज्ञातिव्रतादौ तु व्यव्यं कुर्याद्यथोचितम् ॥ ६०॥
One can meet one's proper expenses for social, communal or religious purposes from joint property or from property partitioned, without the consent of the son.
तन्मृतौ तु स्त्रियश्चापि व्ययं कर्तुमशक्तिता। भोजनांशुकमानं तु गृहीयाद् वित्तमासतः ॥ ६१॥
On his death, his widow is powerless to alienate the property; she can have an allowance for food and clothes only in proportion to the estate.
सर्वद्रव्याधिकारस्तु व्यवहारे सुतस्य वै। न व्ययीकरणे रिक्थस्य हि मातृसमक्षकम् ॥ ६॥
