We know this not only by metaphysical speculations or intutions pure and simple ; but also an investigation in the lines of empirical method into the historical events and life-works of the mighty minds of yore, makes it clear that there is in fact a certain amount of liberty and a certain amount of necessity participating in every human thought and activtiy.
