Pudgala 1.e. 'pud' means 'to combine' and 'gala' means to dissociate, the two words combine together to form "Pudgala". Hence, the basic meaning of the word Pudgala is "that which undergoes modifications by combinations and dissociations." Similarly in "Tattvartha Rajavartika", "Dhavala Granth", "Hauvansha Puran", "Siddhaseniya Tattvartha Tika", and other works, 'pudgala' has been so named on account of its nature of association and dissociation
