Apa bhrams'a Literature. Uptil now we had to rest content with the Dohās contained in the eighth Adhyāya of Hemacandra's Grammar and the 8th canto of his Prūkyta Kumarapāla Caritra. Dr. Jacobi, when he visited India last year, came across a MS of Punerumi kicheza of Dhanapāla which lie considered in important discovery. He wanted to bring out an edition of this work; and for this, the MS of this work from the Pattan Bhandlar was lent to him. His further desire was to get as much Apabhranía literature is possible so that one may be able to write a grammar of this important but neglected language. The Pattan Bhandars have yielded to my searches works containing about 10,000 verses. The Apabhramba works, says, Hemīcarya in luis hiryus'sante, are divided into Sochis, just as Sanskrit works are divided into Sims (cantos). The same author in his Cheunessuna sily's that a Sieuthi is nothing but a collection of Kudarris. The lattan Dilandars contain two extensive works divided into Sudhis (1) Prenerace Kahii, 26 Sellis (2) Ārālhanā about 100 Sorlhis, and also several works called Suwilis. These Sewis iso subdivided into krdurvis. For example Pajiririmi Sevdi is divided into ? Stendhis, the first containing 10 Kadavas. The Apablıramsa works were also in the form of Räsits, the forerunners of our Gujarati Rāsī. There are references in a work of the 12th century to two Apabhramsa Rāsās. The Puttan Bhandars also contain such Rāsas as Anturonga Rrīsli, Newi Rrīsu, lammasini Rīsu. All these works require to be published so that scholars may have ample material for researches in the origin of Gujarati philology.
