द्वितीयजन्मनः पूर्वमक्षराभ्यासमाचरेत् । मौञ्जीबन्धनतः पश्चाच्छास्त्रारम्भो विधीयते ॥ १६३ ॥ पञ्चमे सप्तमे चाब्दे पूर्व स्यान्मौ ञ्जिवन्धनात् ।
तत्र चैवाक्षराभ्यासः कर्तव्यस्तुदगयने ॥ १६४ ॥
द्वितीय जन्म के पहले अर्थात् उपनयन-संस्कारकी क्रिया करनेके पहले बालकको अक्षराभ्यास कराना चाहिए | क्योंकि उपनयनके बाद तो शास्त्रारंभ किया जाता है । उपनयनसे पहले पांचवें अथवा सातवें वर्ष में बालकको अक्षराभ्यास करावे | अक्षराभ्यास उत्तरायण में करावे ॥१६३-१६४॥ मृगादिपञ्चस्वपि तेषु मूले । हस्तादिके च क्रियतेऽश्विनीपु ।
पुर्वात्रये च श्रवणत्रये च । विद्यासमारम्भमुशन्ति सिद्धये ॥ १६५ ॥

आयुजडचं मृतिर्मेधा सुधीः प्रज्ञा तनुक्षयः ॥ १६६ ॥ अनध्यायाः प्रदोषाश्च षष्ठी रिक्ता तथा तिथिः । वर्जनीया प्रयत्नेन विद्यारम्भेषु सर्वदा || १६७ || विद्यारम्भे शुभा मोक्ता जीवज्ञप्तितवासराः । मध्यमौ सोमसूर्यौ च निन्द्यश्चैव शानिः कुजः ॥ १६८ ॥ उदग्गते भास्वति पञ्चमेऽब्दे । प्राप्तेऽक्षरस्वीकरणं शिशुनाम् ॥ सरस्वती क्षेत्रसुपालकं च । गुडोदनाद्यैरभिपूज्य कुर्यात् ॥ १६९ ॥ आदित्यादिवारोंको विद्या सिखाना आरंभ करनेका फल क्रमसे इस प्रकार जानना | रविवारको विद्या सिखाना प्रारंभ करनेसे आयुष्य बढ़ती है, सोमवारको बुद्धि मोटी हो जाती है, मंगलवारको मृत्यु प्राप्त होती है, बुधवारको मेधा बढ़ती है अर्थात् धारणाशक्ति उत्पन्न होती है, गुरुवारको सुधीःबुद्धि कुशल होती है, शुक्रवारको प्रज्ञा अर्थात् ऊहापोह ( तर्कवितर्क रूप शक्ति उत्पन्न होती है, ) और शनिवारको विद्या प्रारंभ करनेसे शरीर क्षीण होता है । अनध्यायके दिनोंको, प्रदोषके समय, छठको, रिक्तातिथि अर्थात् चतुर्थी, नवमी और चतुर्दशीको विद्या प्रारंभ न करावे । विद्या प्रारंभ करानेके लिए बुधवार, गुरुवार और शुक्रवार शुभ माने गये हैं, सोमवार और रविवार मध्यम हैं, और शनिवार और मंगलवार निकृष्ठ हैं। बालकको पांचवां वर्ष लगनेपर सूर्यके उत्तरायण होनेपर अक्षराभ्यास करानेका मुहूर्त करे । उस समय सरस्वती और क्षेत्रपालकी गुड़, चावल आदिसे पूजा करे || १६६-१६७ ॥
एवं सुनिश्चिते काले विद्यारम्भं तु कारयेत् ।

**Verse 167:** One should always avoid starting learning on the following days: Anudhyaya (days of fasting), Pradosha (twilight), Shashthi (sixth lunar day), and Riktatithi (fourth, ninth, and fourteenth lunar days).

**Verse 168:** Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are considered auspicious for starting learning. Monday and Sunday are moderate, while Saturday and Tuesday are inauspicious.

**Verse 169:** When the child turns five years old and the sun enters Uttarayana, the auspicious time for teaching the alphabet arrives. At this time, one should worship Saraswati and the guardian deity of the land with offerings of jaggery, rice, etc.
