INTRODUCTION
The Sāntinātha Jãāna-bhaņdāra at Khambhāta is as important a library of ancient palm-leaf manuscripts written in the Devanāgarī script as those situated at Jesalmere, Pātana, Ahmedabad, Surat, Poona and other places These palmleaf manuscript libraries are of great importance from the view-point of editing and studying such original texts as the Jaina Canons, the treatises on Jaina Karmavāda, the ancient story-literature in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Apabhramsa, the works on Indian philosophical systems, on Grammar and on lexicography, the Kavyas, the Nātakas, treatises on rhetoric, the Subhâsıtas and so on
Since they have preserved very old, and in many cases even the oldest extant, manuscripts of works on various subjects, the originality of these works is also retained therein and as such they are highly useful to the Researchers. Likewise, a number of manuscripts preserved therein are quite unique in the sense that no other copies of the works concerned are available anywhere else, which factor enhances all the more the importance of these collections As such, they have furnished considerable rare and unknown literary material. The huge Jñānabhandāras at Påtana have presented to us such works as the Visesavaśyakamahābhāsya-svopagña-tikā, which was commenced by Jinabhadraganin and completed by Vādiganımahatlara Koļļārya, the Pascasangrahasuo pajžia-tikā by Candrarşı Mahattara, the Sataka-brhadbhâsya of Cakreśvarasūri, the Dānādiprakarana by Sūrācārya, the latter half of the Syādvādaratnākara by Vadidevasūri, the Herbindu-tikā of Acārya Dharmakirti, the Tallvopaplavasuinha by Jayarāśı, the Pramānasangraha by the Digambara pontiff Akalankadeva, the Kalānali of Bhadreśvarasürı, the Davadanticaritra and the Kalāvaticarıtra in Prakrit, the Paunasıricarii in Apabhramsa by Dhāhila, the Malayagiri-vyākarana and the Mugdhabodhavyākarana, the Lilävaikahā in Prakrt by Kutūhalakavı, Someśvaradeva's Vikramankahävya, the Sükiaratnākara, the commentaries of Srikantha and Trivikrama Bhatta on the Vrtlaratnākara, Ājada's commentary on the Sarasvatikanthābharana, the Kavrsiksa by Vinayacandrasuri , the Raghuvilāsa-nālaka by Ramacandra and the Rapakasatka of Vatsarāja, Yogghama's commentary on the Arthaśāstra of Kautilya, the Lakşanasanuccaya by Virocana, the commentaries Cūdāmanız and Lilăvati on the Praśna-vyakarana, the Cüdamanlisära, the U kivyaktı prakatana and Vaijanātha's Kalanidhi.
Likewise, Jinabhadrasūri's Palm-leaf collection in the fort of Jesalmere has brought to light such valuable works as the Daśavar kālikasiira-curnt by Sthavira Agastyasimha, the Jyotiskarandaka by Padaliptasūri along with a Foppana,
