on the other, and there is not a single male sculpture belonging to this artistically dark period, yet this negative argument at a stage when Indian Archeology is still in its infancy, and when numerous ancient sites are still awaiting exploration and excavation, can not or, perhaps, should not prevent us from tracing the germs of Jain images and their iconography to these most ancient sculptures of Bharatavarșa.
