गुरुयो, गुरुणो द्वितीया
गुरुणो (१) तृतीया गुरुणा
गुरूहिं गुरुदो इत्यादि
गुरुहितो इत्यादि घटी गुरुणो, गुरुस्स
गुरुणं, गुरुण (२) सप्तमी गुरुम्मि
गुरुसु, गुरुसुं सम्बोधनं गुरु
गुरुयो सर्वे दूकारान्ता गिरिशब्दवदुकारान्ताश्च गुरुशब्दवत् रूपाणि भजन्ते। | All nouns ending in i or u are declined like giri or guru respectively.
कारान्त पुंलिङ्ग शब्द रूपाणि (नियमाः) । Rules for Declesion of nouns ending in ri () (masculine.)
(१) ऋकारान्तस्य सुपि परत पार इत्यादेशो भवति। अदन्त वच्चास्य रूपाणि ।
The final ri of words becomes ára before all case affixes, and such words are declined like those ending in a.
(२) स्वमौ वर्ज सुपि परत ऋकारस्य स्थाने विकल्प नोकारादेशः उत्व पक्षे चोकारान्तशब्दवदरूपाणि भवन्ति ।
U is optionally substituted for final și before all caseaffixes except सु (nom. sing.); and अम (acc. sing.); when u is substituted for ri, the rules of declension prescribed for nouns ending in u, shall apply.
१। अपभ्रंशे यामो हूं हं, च भवति। In the apabhransa, him as well as ham are substituted for ám after nouns ending in i or u.
२। शौरसेन्यां भर्ट शब्दस्य 'भट्ठा' इति रूपं भवति। In the saurasent the word bhartri take the form of thattá.
