The nose is one of the most vital organs. Apart from its function as an air-conditioner, heater, filter and moisturizer, it has a direct effect on physical, mental, emotional, psychic and spiritual states. The health of the nose can be maintained by yogic practices such as neti and by a healthy lifestyle and diet. This will allow one to practise pranayama efficiently and to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The body and mind will then behave as one harmonious unit and the perception will improve. The sense of smell and its related functions on more subtle levels will work optimally, allowing a better relationship with the world and with oneself.
