A poet has said this while inspiring people to seek the joy of self-sacrifice.
"If you want real peace and felicity eat the fruit of self-sacrifice. What is there in these worldly delights? They are like false mangoes and false almonds."
In the following stanzas, taken from the Bhagavad Gitā, we get an account of the differences amçng the sacrifices prompted by the three gunas (qualities), namely Tamasa (तामस), Rajasa (राजस) and Satvika (सात्विक) नियतस्य तु संन्यासः
Niyatasya tu sanyāsah
Karmano nopapadyate Mohättasya Parityāgah
Tamasah Parikirtitah Dukha mityeva ratkarma
Kāya Kleshabhayāt tyajot Sa kritvārajasam tyāgain
Naivatyā gaphalam labhet Kāryamityeva ratkarma
