Man earns money by undergoing countless hardships and spends it on luxuries and pleasures. Dharma (Duty), Artha (Wealth), Kama (fulfilment of Desires), Moksha (Salvation are the four purusharthas or objectives to be attained by man. Of these, Artha and Kama constitute a pair and Dharma and Moksha constitute another pair. The first pair entangles the Jiva in the worldy life; and the second pair releases him from the bondage of Karma. Ninety nine percent of the people in the world are caught in the cycle of the first pair; and they cannot get out of it. The way of worldly life is the Preyomarg (the inferior path)and the way of salvation is the Shreyomarg (the superior path) He whose inner eyes are blinded and who lacks farsightedness, runs on the preyomarg. Man may lose his craze for money and utilize it for the welfare of others but it is not easy to discard lust. Lust keeps fascinating people endlessly. We cannot know when the latent lust of a man, who has performed penances and gives the impression of being peaceful, manifests itself in a terrible form.
