INTRODUCTION
Place of AJP and its svopajña vyākhya--
That Anekāntajayapatakavyākhyā, if not AJP, is by no means the first work of our author is borne out by the fact that (i) in this work five works viz. Anekântasiddhi, Atmasiddhi, Sarvajñasiddhi', its tīkà (com.) and Syâdvadakucodyaparihāra have been referred to, on p. 263 (Vol. I), p. 218 (Vol. II), p. 49 (Vol. II), pp. 6 and 116 (Vol. I), and p. 296 (Vol. I), (ii) there are some verses in common with those in S'āstravārtăsamuccaya, and (iii) AJP is preceded by Bhāvanāsiddhi. It is not also the last; for, it has been quoted by our author in his other works. e.g. Lalitavistarā” (p. 75a). As his last work may be mentioned Tattvārthaţikā or Pindaniryuktivivrti which was completed by Vira Sūri.
(5) Anekāntavāda praves'a This is a very small work in Saṁskṛta. It is composed probably with a view to helping the beginner to master the bigger and more difficult work AJP. This looks like its epitome with reproductions word for word in several places with this difference that here the Yogācāra section of AJP is not at all treated.
The total extent of Anekāntavādapravesa is 720 slokas, and it mainly deals with five topics viz. (i) sadasattvaváda, (ii) nityanityatvavāda, (iii) sāmányavisesatvavada, (iv) abhilāpyānabhilāpyatvavada and (v) mokşaväda. The views of the non-Jaina schools regarding these topics are represented in the beginning. The major portion of the work is occupied by the refutation of these views; for, it covers pp. 9 to 65 out of 1 to 65.
This Anekāntavādapravesa seems to be the same as one noted by Gunaratna Sūri as. Anekāntapravesa in his com. (p. 107a) to Şaddarsanasamuccaya (ch. IV, v. 58).
This work together with ?'ippanakawas published at Pattan in the Hemacandrācārya Granthāvali in 1919 A. D. It was translated into Gujarātī by the late Manilal Nabhubhai Dvivedi in 1899 A, D., and this translation was published by Baroda, Educational Department.
