________________ Compassion - Sambodhi "MEGH KUMAR STORY Once there was a forest-fire and all the animals ran to the clearing to avoid getting burned. The animals were pushed against each other due to limited space. One elephant who made it to the safe space had an itch on his leg so he lifted his leg to scratch his foot. In that very moment a rabbit being pushed in the crowd occupied the space under the lifted foot. When the elephant saw the timid rabbit he was moved by compassion and thus did not keep his foot down until the fire was extinguished. After 3 full days the fire was put out. Then the elephant tried to put his foot down, but due to prolonged stress and numbness he fell down and died. This incident is an exemplary epitome of compassion shown by an animal, proving time and again that not only humans but even animals have feeling of compassion.
