________________ VI, 28, 1. ON MEDICAMENTS. the Blessed One receive me from this day forth while my life lasts as a disciple who has taken his refuge in him.' 27. And the Blessed One, wandering from place to place, came to Ragagaha. There the Blessed One dwelt near Rågagaha, in the Veluvana, at Kalandakanivåpa. At that time the Bhikkhus at Râgagaha had plenty of sugar. The Bhikkhus feared to offend (and thought): "The Blessed One has allowed the eating of sugar only to the sick and not to the healthy, and therefore they did not eat sugar They told this thing to the Blessed One. 'I allow, O Bhikkhus, to the sick the eating of sugar, and to the healthy the drinking of sugarwater.' 281 1. And the Blessed One, after having dwelt at Râgagaha as long as he thought fit, went forth to Påtaligama, accompanied by a great number of Bhikkhus, by twelve hundred and fifty Bhikkhus. Wandering from place to place the Blessed One came to Påtaligama. 1 Chaps. 28-30 are, with a few unimportant variations, word for word the same as Mahaparinibbâna Sutta I, 19-II, 3; II, 16-24.
