There was a garden named TSAL Shankhvan. Jitshatru was the ruler. Chullashatak, a well-to-do O OT P A P O Gathapati lived there. He had sixty million gold coins in his O7i w A M P treasure, sixty million in business and sixty million in household O O NAT items. He had sixgokuls often thousands cows each. Oo O x SITO Once Bhagavan Mahavir came to Alabhika. Chullashatak came to ORW M L O A have his darshan. He wasinspired by his sermon. He accepted the Z V V O y M A vows of the householder. Chullashatak took deep interest in T A O W practicing the vows and spiritual meditation. Once he was in O O E Paushadh-upvas (fasting for 24 hours) in the Paushadhshala n AS o T O SL (place of worship) and avoided sex completely. He was deeply A T a O L engaged in spiritual practice when suddenly a demon-god appeared S TA O O at mid-night. He wanted to influence Chullashatak for giving up E Y R O O the vows. Same thing happened with Chullashatak as had t YR O happened with Chulanipita through the demon-god. The demon- O CN EWD AT god killed three sons in his presence one after the other, cut them O OMAP into seven pieces each, roasted the pieces, and sprinkled the meat AWO O AP and blood on him. But Chullashatak was much abovethefeeling of AWBO O W T attachment. So he remained firm in vowsandself-meditation. R T O O TEIV The demon-god thought—‘Everyone in this world has attraction TIBO OTSA and attachment for wealth. So I should destroy his wealth.’ LAP TO OT7 N The demon-god shouted in anger and harsh voice—“Look,in case L O O A you do not give up the vows, I shall scatteryour entire wealth IW T O O T and household articles on the roads and the crossings in thecity. P SSAP O OEL You shall become penniless. You shall be so much morose and LW ATO dejected that you shall not remain alive.” But Chullashatak EB RNARBIIYYGG ERAF O remainedfirm inspiritual practices.
