same thing happened with Chulanipita. When Bhagavan Mahavir
reached Varanasi, Chulanipita also heard his sermon. He also
S accepted vows of a householder and became a Shravak. No account (&

< + One day he observed Brahmacharya (sex-restraint) and Paushadh Y
vow. He was engaged in spiritual meditation in the &
S Paushadhshala. At mid-night a demon-god appeared to disturb
6 him. With a sword in his hand, he told Chulanipita—“You discard
the vows otherwise I shall pick up your eldest son and cut himinto ®&
oe three pieces in your presence. Then I shall roast them in boiling oil
in a vessel. Later, I shall throw the boiling meat of your son and
his blood on you.” .
+ It was heart-rending situation but Chulanipita remained firm in his ‘
meditation and spiritual practices. It enraged the demon. He did the {&
9 same as he had earlier declared. It was a very dreadful and
condemnable act. Evena hard-hearted man would have been affected
by such an incident; but Chulanipita remainedfirm in his meditation. ¥
