conch and other costly things belonging to them. They distributed their material wealth among the poor and needy; they gave due share to their sons and others. Thereafter they got their head cleanly shaved, discarded the householder's life and adopted monkhood. I, however, am not capable of discarding household affairs to such an extent.
I want to accept five partial vows and seven supplementary vows of a householder at your feet.”
After understanding the mental attitude of Chitta Saarthi Keshi Kumar Shraman said-"O the blessed ! You do whatever brings peace to you and is liked by you. But you should not delay the putting into practice the religious resolve.
विवेचन-इस वर्णन से स्पष्ट होता है कि चित्त सारथी धार्मिक आस्था वाला ससार-भीरु था। वह प्रदेशी राजा के अधर्माचरण और हिसा आदि कार्यो से मन मे खेदखिन्न रहता था। लेकिन अपनी मानसिक, पारिवारिक और प्रजाजनो की स्थिति को देखकर तथा राज्य की जिम्मेदारी को सँभालते हुए उसे यह सम्भव प्रतीत नही हुआ कि सब कुछ त्यागकर अनगार-प्रव्रज्या अगीकार कर लें। इसीलिए उसने निर्ग्रन्थ प्रवचन के प्रति अतीव भावपूर्ण शब्दो मे अपनी आन्तरिक श्रद्धा अभिव्यक्त की है। ___चित्त सारथी की भावना को जानकर केशीकुमार श्रमण ने तटस्थभाव के साथ कहा-“अहासुहं
देवाणुप्पिया !" और फिर यह जानकर कि इस भव्य आत्मा मे ससार-सागर से पार होने की अभिलाषा है, पात्रता भी है, इसे पथ-प्रदर्शन एव तदनुकूल निमित्तो का बोध कराने की आवश्यकता है। बिना पथ-प्रदर्शन के जिज्ञासु आत्मा भी भटक सकती है तब एक संकेत भी उन्होंने कर दिया कि ‘मा पडिबंध करेहि।'
उपदेशक का कर्त्तव्य भव्य हृदय मे जिज्ञासा जगाना होता है, उसे मार्गदर्शन करना मात्र होता है, आगे का रास्ता स्वयं उसे ही चुनना पडता है।
Elaboration-It is evident from this description that Chitta Saarthi had religious faith and was afraid of mundane life (activities that increase number of births in the mundane world). He was feeling disgusted at the irreligious activities and the actions involving violence committed by king Pradeshi But keeping in view his mental state and his family state and his family and social responsibility and also his duties towards royal administration, he was not finding it possible that he should discard every thing and adopt monkhood. So he expressed his mental state and his faith in the word of the detached (Nirgranth Pravachan) completely stating his heart-felt attitude.
