आसक्ति का फल : मेंढक जन्म चित्र : १२
१. नन्द मणिकार अपने भवन के ऊपरी कक्ष में बैठा लोगों के मुँह से जब अपनी बावड़ी व खुद की प्रशंसा सुनता तो बहुत आनन्दित हो उठता।
२. एक बारं नन्द मणिकार बीमार हुआ और धीरे-धीरे वह सोलह महारोगों से ग्रस्त हो गया। उसके मन में अपनी बनाई पुष्करिणी के प्रति बहुत गहरी आसक्ति थी।
३. इसी आसक्ति के वश हुआ प्राण त्यागकर वह उसी पुष्करिणी में एक मेंढकी के गर्भ से मेंढक रूप में जन्म लेता है।
४. वहाँ पर आने-जाने वाले लोगों के मुँह से नन्द मणिकार की प्रशंसा सुनता है। प्रशंसा सुनते हुए उसे अपना पूर्व-जन्म याद आता है। पर एक बार कुछ लोग पुष्करिणी के किनारे बैठे बतिया रहे थे-“आज नगर में भगवान महावीर पधार रहे हैं चलो हम उनके दर्शन कर प्रवचन सुनेंगे।" नन्द जीव मेंढक ने लोगों की यह बात सुनी तो वह भी भगवान महावीर की वन्दना करने के लिए निकल पड़ा।

THE FRUITS OF ATTACHMENT : THE BIRTH AS A FROG ILLUSTRATION: 12
1. Nand Manikar is sitting in an upper floor chamber in his house with a number of guests and enjoying the praise of the pool and himself.
2. Nand is plagued by sixteen terrible diseases. He dies taking his infatuation for the pond with him.
3. As the result of this extreme attachment he reincarnates as a frog in the very same pond.
4. There he hears the praise of Nand from the citizens bathing in the pond and concentrates to refresh his memory. This effort results in his acquiring Jatismaran Jnana. He immediately resolves to follow the religious path. One day some people sitting at the edge of the pool were saying, “Bhagavan Mahavir is in the town, let us go behold him and listen to his discourse." Nand frog heard this and came out of the pond on the highway and proceeded toward the congregation.
