इसके विपरीत जो इन्द्रिय सुखों में आसक्त होकर संयम नहीं रख सकता, वह संसार सागर में गोतेखाते हुए शृगालों (पापों) द्वारा ग्रस्त होकर कछुए की तरह दुखी होते हैं।
CONCLUSION
This fourth story of Jnata Dharma Katha explains the importance of the discipline of the sense organs with the help of an appropriate example. Those practicers who keep their five sense organs withdrawn within the shield of discipline progress on the spiritual path and attain their goal. But those who bring the ever indulgent senses out of the shield of discipline are trapped by perversions and meet a horrible end. As such it is to the benefit of a practicer to abandon the tendencies of wavering, curiosity, and instability and acquire stability, concentration, and discipline.
THE MESSAGE
Saving the soul from sensual pleasures as well as attachment and aversion with the help of discipline a practicer attains the ultimate pleasure of liberation. Just as the tortoise reached its abode in the Mayangteer-drah after saving itself by withdrawing within its protective shell. On the other hand he who does not discipline its senses is consumed by miseries of the eternal cycle of rebirth. Just as the other tortoise was consumed by the jackals.
परिशिष्ट
मयंगतीर द्रह-टीकाकारों ने मयंग शब्द की उत्पत्ति मृतगंगा से की है और उसका अर्थ किया है-वह स्थान जहाँ गंगा का पानी खूब गहरा व अधिक हो। आवश्यकचूर्णि में मृतगंगा के विषय में कहा है-गंगा जहाँ समुद्र में मिलती है वहाँ प्रत्येक वर्ष अपना पाट बदलती है। यहाँ गंगा का जो मुहाना सबसे प्राचीन है उसे मृतगंगा कहते हैं। वाराणसी समुद्र के निकट नहीं है और फिर मयंग शब्द की मृतगंगा शब्द से उत्पत्ति भी किसी पद्धति से पुष्ट नहीं होती। ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि उस तट विशेष पर किसी समय मयंग या मतंग नामक कोई ऋषि रहते होंगे। उन्हीं के नाम से इस स्थान का नाम मतंग तीर अथवा मयंग तीर पा गया होगा।
