(8) Tiricch sampaimesu—the insects that fly obliquely, like the mosquito, bumble-bee, locust, moth, etc.
९ : न चरेज्ज वेससामंते बंभचेरबसाणुए।
बंभयारिस्स दंतस्स हुज्जा तत्थ विसुत्तिआ। ब्रह्मचारी वेश्याओं के समीप के स्थानों (वेश्यावाड़ा) में गोचरी के लिए न जावे। क्योंकि इन्द्रियों का दमन करने वाले ब्रह्मचारी को भी वहाँ पर संयमरूपी धान्य के सुखाने वाला मनोविकार उत्पन्न हो सकता है॥९॥
9. A celibate person (an ascetic) should not go into areas of ill repute (a red-light district). This is because even a celibate person who has achieved victory over his senses can be overwhelmed by lust that clogs the stream of virtues and causes the (plant of) discipline to wither. १० : अणायणे चरंतस्स संसग्गीए अभिक्खणं।
हुज्ज वयाणं पीला सामण्णंमि अ संसओ॥ वेश्यादि के मुहल्लों में जाने वाले साधु को बार-बार के संसर्ग से व्रतों को पीड़ा (हानि) उत्पन्न हो सकती है अर्थात् व्रतों का ह्रास हो सकता है और श्रामण्यभाव में संशय (लोगों को संदेह या मन में) विचिकित्सा भी उत्पन्न हो जायेगा।॥१०॥ ____10. If he goes into such areas the consequent frequent interaction may damage his vows of discipline. It may also give rise to feelings of doubt and revulsion for him in the minds of people.
११ : तम्हा एयं विआणित्ता दोसं दुग्गइवड्ढणं।
वज्जए वेससामंतं मुणी एगंतमस्सिए॥ इसलिए एकान्त में रहने वाला अर्थात् मोक्षमार्ग पर चलने वाला मुनि, दुर्गति के बढ़ाने वाले इन दोषों को जानकर वेश्याओं के समीप के मार्ग को भी छोड़ दे॥११॥
