248. A disciplined bhikshu or bhikshuni should also know about pots that are (acceptable like wooden etc. but-) adorned with various expensive straps or strings, such as those made of iron, gold, leather etc. An ascetic should not accept pots with these and other such highly expensive straps considering them to be faulty and unacceptable.
विवेचन-इन दो सूत्रों में बहुमूल्य धातु या मूल्यवान पदार्थ से बने, दीखने में सुन्दर अथवा जीवों की हिंसा से निष्पन्न पात्रों को लेने का तथा यदि काष्ठ आदि के पात्र पर भी सोने, चाँदी आदि के बन्धन लगे हों तो उन पात्रों को लेने का निषेध किया है। वृत्तिकार ने इस निषेध के पीछे निम्न कारणों की संभावना व्यक्त की है
(१) अधिक मूल्यवान पात्र चुराये जाने या छीने जाने का भय। (२) संग्रह करके रखने की संभावना। (३) क्रय-विक्रय या अदला-बदली करने की संभावना।
(४) इन बहुमूल्य पात्रों को पाने के लिए धनिक जनों की प्रशंसा, चाटुकारी आदि भी करनी पड़ सकती है।
(५) इन पर आसक्ति या ममता-मूर्छा और सामान्य पात्रों पर घृणा आने की संभावना रहती है।
(६) इन पात्रों को बनाने तथा टूटने-फूटने पर जोड़ने में बहुत आरम्भ होता है।
(७) शंख, दाँत, चर्म आदि के पात्रों के लिए सम्बन्धित पंचेन्द्रिय जीव-हिंसा की भी संभावना रहती है।
(८) साधर्मिकों के साथ प्रतिस्पर्धा, ईर्ष्या एवं दूसरों को उपभोग के लिए न देने की भावना भी रहती है। (वृत्ति पत्रांक ३९९)
निशीथसूत्र में बताया है कि इस प्रकार के पात्र बनाने और बनाने का अनुमोदन करने वाले साधु-साध्वी को प्रायश्चित्त आता है। (निशीथ चूर्णि ११/१)
Elaboration In these two aphorisms there is censure of accepting beautiful pots made of expensive material and involving harm to beings as also ordinary pots of acceptable material like wood but adorned with straps of gold or silver.
