८७१) Elaboration-After food, these aphorisms explain about the exploration of water. An ascetic should not accept water which is infested with water-bodied beings or is in contact with sachit (contaminated with living organisms) things. Such drinks or water are called panak. After boiling three times, water becomes achit (uncontaminated). Besides this, nine types of washes including those of sesame seeds, rice (etc.) are mentioned in these aphorisms. "Tahappagaram' indicates inclusion of other types of water having a changed taste, smell, colour due to its transformation by use of weapon, in the list of acceptables. This includes raisin wash and water with which a utensil cleaned with ash has been washed. All the drinks (panak) mentioned in aphorism 43 become acceptable due to the change in their taste, smell, colour. But if such water contains fruit-kernel, vegetable or fruit skin or seeds, it is unacceptable even if it is offered after filtering. This is because it is considered as being touched by sachit things.
