COMMENTARY
In the case of the Cognitions of the Lamp, nu find that the same expression * Cognition of Lamp' is applied to the cognitions which have different things (in the shape of the flickering fames) for their object; hence the character of being expressed by the same term', which has boen adduced as the Reason for sameness, is found to be 'fallible' in the case of the Cognitions of the Lamp'.
Or the Text may be read with a taunting intonation, the sense being'the said character subsisting in the Cognitions of the Lamp is, on that very account, & very sound reason, and for you, indeed, it is infallible; but in reality, it is not so ':-(471)
