ing on him, his tiara, his long ear-rings, and the garland which adorned his breast, and all the jewels with which he was ornamented thrown into commotion, le descends in haste from his throne, steps down from the footstool, and advancing several paces, Indra, lord of the celestials, clad in his robes of honour, and adorned with all his jewels, loosed from his fect the shoes ornamented with dark shining lapis-lazuli stones, and other jewels, set in them by a divine artist, and throwiny his seamless robe* over his left shoulder, and joining his hands so as to bring the nails together, he advanced still seven or eight steps in the direction of the Tirthankar, when kneeling so as to keep his left knee up, while his right was on the ground, he bowed his head three times to the earth, keeping it each time for a short period in the posture or adoration, and afterwards raising his arms with the hands so united as to bring the nails together, and thus carrying them up to his forehead, he spoke as follows.
