A Sixth Report of Operations in Search of Sanskrit MSS. in the Bombay Circle. April 1895-March 1899. By PROFESSOR PETERSON.
In the Index of Authors prefixed to this Report, the third of the kind I have furnished, I have completed my examination of the extracts presented with my Fifth Report with the exception of the Patan MSS. These were dealt with in the previous Index. I have added and presented in Index form all the information I have been able to glean from the MSS. purchased for Government during the period from April 1896 to March 1898. Extracts from these manuscripts form the first Appendix to the present Report. The list of manuscripts purchased forms a second Appendix to the Report. It will not escape notice that there has been a great falling off in the number of manuscripts purchased yearly. This is due to the fact that the funds placed at my disposal have of late years been seriously curtailed. For the same reason I have not been able to make during the period under report any tours in prosecution of the search, and cannot therefore give in the body of this Report information from manuscripts examined in various parts of the Bombay Circle but not purchased.
The publication of this Report has, to my great regret, been delayed owing to a variety of causes, the chief of which has been the plague. It has seriously obstructed personal communications between Mr. Bhagvandas Kevaldas, the indefatigable agent of the search, and myself, I have taken
