________________ viii INDES OF AUTHORS. Amara chandra - Author of the Jinendracharitra, otherwise called the Padma. nandakâvya. Pupil of Jinadattasuri. 1, p. 58: App. p. 2. My conjecture about this Jinadatta is wrong. See Bhandarkar's Second Report, p. 6, and the entry Jinadatta of the Vậyada gachchha in this Index. Amarachandra completed the Kâvyakalpalatâ of his friend Arisinha, and wrote a commentary to the whole book, which he styled Kaviśikshâvșitti. He wrote also the Chhandoratuâvali, the Kalâ kalâ pa, and the Balabhârata. “Arisinha and Amarachandra were fellow students, and lived, according to the account given by Rajasekhara, in the Prabandhachaturvinsati, in the time of Visaladeva, before he got possession of the throne of Patan, i. e., about the middle of the thirteenth century.” Bhandarkar. Amaraprabha suri Author of a Commentary on the Bhaktâmarastotra of Mânatungasûri. He wrote this at the request of bis “vâchanacharya" Devasundara. 3, App. p. 228. Guņasågara, author of a commentary on the Kalyaṇamandirastotra of Kumudachandra, tells us that he succeeded Sågarendu (Sigarachandra), who succeeded Amaraprabha, who succeeded Devasûri. This, is probably the same Amaraprabba. His teacher Devasundara was born Samvat 1396, took vrata 1404 at Maheśvaragrâma, and became sûri in Samvat 1420 al Anabilapattana. Klatt, Ind. Ant. XI. p. 255. See also Weber, II. p. 938, note 2. Amarasagara Mentioned as pupil of Kalyanasagara in the Anchala gachchha. In the pattâralî of that gachchha, Bomb. Ed. p. 516, the dates for this teacher are given as follows: born, Samvat 1694 in Oodeypore; dikshå, Samvat 1705; acharyapada, Samvat 1714, ih Cambay; gachchbesapada, Samvat 1718 in Bhooj; died, Samvat 1762 in Dholka. Vidyasagara succeeded him. Mentioned as pupil of 'Sivasindhusûri (= Kalyâņasâgara) who was pupil of Dharmamûrti of the Vidhipaksha gachchha, in the Chandra kula. He was succeeded by Vidyâsîgara, who was succeeded by Udayabdhi (Udayasagara), author of a Snâtripanchasika. 3, App. p. 238.
