AN EPITOME OF JAINISM.
(a) Pritvakatva Vitarka Sapravicharaconsisting as it does in the ideation of the substance as characterised with origination, dessolution, continuation (utpada vyaya dhrouva yuktam sat) as well as in the descrimination between such pair of opposites as jiva and ajiva; guna and paryaya; swabhava and bibhava tending to the formation of the right knowledge of the soul as it is in itself. This attitude of the mind becomes manifest when the jiva is between the 8th and 11th Gunasthân.
(b) Ekatva vitarka apravichara.-consists

in thinking of the rence between the pairs of opposits and thereby to arrive at the knowledge of unity amidst the diversity of things and thoughts. It appears to develop in the
Gunasthan.
