ASRAVA OR THE INFLUX.

Now to come to the Asrava or the third of the Jain moral categories. Asrava is the influx of the karma-particles into the soul. Or it may be said as the acquirement by the soul of the finest of the fine karma-matter from without. But the soul does not always and invariably take in these karma-matter. To do it the soul must be charged with certain requisite powers by virtue of which it will draw in foreign matters into its various chambers or pradeshas. The requisite powers which galvanise the soul to draw in matters from without is (1) mithyâtva (subreption), (2) avirati or attachment (3)
