the Jar-maker: so what generates the notion of subjectivity, personality or I-ness (FE*H1a) is called Ahankár. Thus it is a principle (aca) of differentiation, individuation and sub jectification revealed in the form of selfconsciousness and is intellectual in essence proceeding as it does from intellection.
This Ahankára, when affected by the Sattva-Ha, evolves the eleven organs and when affected by the Tama .guna, it evolves the five Tanmatras. The third guna, Rajas, is manifested in the activity implied in this two-fold creation.
These are the five elemental essences viz., visibility, audibility, the capacity of producing odour, the capacity of producing mâtrâs. taste, and tangibility. The principle which generates the notion of subjectivity (ahankára), also generates under the influence of inertia or af:, the five rudimentary essences or Tanmåtrås. -
Just as the Tanmatras are evolved by Ahankära under the influence of the quality . The de of af, so the eleven organs are evolved ven organs. by the same principle under the infiuence of the quality of Hea (Sattva). The eleven organs
