The Followers of the Ever Growing One
established themselves in the North of this region where later, Buddhism found a foothold and, so it seems, proceeded to oppose Jainism. Then, on account of the powerful predominance of Islām, the samgha disappeared from Andra Pradeśa. There remain a few inscriptions here and there and some works of sculpture, but no place of worship, no centre of pilgrimage; morcover, local literature perhaps because of a latent antagonism on the part of other dharma, has retained no trace of any influence stemming from notable Jaina authors. 262
