Sakhā, sakhibhya idyah. (RV, 1/75/4) i.e., O foremost fire-divine, indeed you are
alone your kin amongst men, you are their beloved friend, a friend whom
friends may supplicate. (iv) As a Lover to the beloved: Apaghnannesi pavamāna satrūn priyam na jāro abhigita induh Sidan vanesu sakuno na patvā somah punānah kalasesu sattā. (RV, 9/96/23) i.e., O flowing elixir, eulogized, you come chasing
our foes, as a lover to his darling, or as a bird
flies back to her nest. You finally settle in the
reservoirs, having been mixed with water. Jārah kanīna iva caksadana rjrāśvah. (RV, 1/117/18) i.e., As a youthful gallant, has given me a
hundred and one privileges for personal use. (v) As a Husband to the wife:
Pari svajante janayo yathā patim maryam na sundhyum maghavānam ūtaye. (RV, 10/43/1) i.e., (may the poems) embrace just as
women embrace men, their husbands
free from defect, for the sake of protection. Patir iva jäyām abhi no ny etu dhartā divah savitā viāvavārah. (RV, 10/149/4) i.e. As a husband proceeds to his wife,
so may the blessings of the supreme creator, the upholder of the cosmos, whom every one reveres, hasten to us.
(vi) As a Guest to the host:
Viśvesām aditir yajñiyānāṁ vimāvesam atithir mānusānām Agnir devānām ava avrnānah sumrdīko bhavatu jātavedā. (RV, 4/1/20)
