Darkness Darkness! My beloved darkness! The world may dislike you, poets may denigrate you, the wayfarers of the world may eschew your presence from far far away, but I love you with all my heart, with the plenitude of affection, indeed! Who, save you, will recall unto me my forgotten Lord: Under the bright screen of light my Lord looks so dwarfish to me—ah! sometimes entirely fading off the arena of this world when faced with the pageant and the prospect of a multitude of huge objects ! But it is not so with darkness. In darkness are submerged all the huge things of the world. And when darkness reigns without, with light beaming within, truly doth my Lord then appear in his exalted figure. From that darkness he emerges assuming a unique complexion--the visual image of love embodied before our very eyes! Thus viewing my loved new-comer, I dance with rapture and as I rush forward to embrace him, he utters in a mute disembodied tone:
