________________ FOREWORD It gives me great pleasure in offering to the scholars of Indian philosophy the present work entitled 'A study of Jayanta Bhatta's Nyayamañjari - A Mature Sanskrit Work on INDIAN LOGIC Part l' as the first book of Sanskrit-Sanskriti Granthamala. Jayanta Bhatta, a Kashmiri pundit of ninth century A.D., was an astute logician and an able philosopher. His Nyāyamañjasi occupies a unique place among the Sanskrit works on Indian philosophy. It bears testimony to Jayanta's philosophical acumen and intellectual powers. . It forcefully establishes Nyāya theories after critically examining the rival ones, mainly the Buddhist and the Mimāmsaka. Therefore, it is a must' for any one interested in Indian philosophy. It is an introductory window to many fascinating intra-Indian philosophical controversies wbich obviously deserve attention.. . I hope this work, since it is a study of the first chapter of the Nyāyamañjari, will be of considerable use to the scholars of Indian philosophy in general and Indian logic in particular. I have no doubt that the scholarly world will receive it with delight. Nagin J.
