________________ 178 Notes to chapter 2 The -v- in dhuva- and ruva- features in the Prākrit passives' dhuvvata (564) and ruvvau (*10). It is, however, unlikely that the -v- was secondarily inserted in dhuva- and ruva- on the basis of these passives. Traditional scholarship was not so much interested in relations existing between words in Prākrit as in the relation between Prākrit and Sanskrit. It should be noted that in Pkt ru- and rud- have partly coalesced, roissam, roiavva and runna (+*rudna) most likely going back to rud Weber refers to two editions of the Kavyaprakāśa, viz. the Calcutta editions of 1829 (Kb) and of 1866 (ka). None of the two was available to me. I refer to the Poona edition by R. D. Karmarkar; of the two editions of the Sāhityadarpaņa, namely the ones of 1828 (Sb) and of 1851 by E. Roer (Sa), only the latter was available to me.
