The utterances of beautiful (coquettish) women may be said to be tending to the operation (expression, evocation, arousal) of passion (in their lovers). But I do not exactly see how they can be said to be tending to the favour (RAT) of passion. Perhaps açofa stands for treifa (= punila = opezfort) ‘are sought after, or solicited.' The utterances of beautiful women, which tend to evoke passion (in their lovers) are sought after (by him). But his heart was shattered by her words (vif931)
