As Devayani was about to mount her bridal chariot, Sarmishta arrived with a small baggage contain: ing her personal effects, and knelt before Devayani. "Who is she?" asked Yayati. "What does she want?” Devayani did not reply; she only blushed. "Your Majesty,” explained Sarmishta, "I am the Empress's personal attendant.
