That is, - One whose heart is not moved to repentence even after tormenting others is said to be cruel.
Jo u paraṁ kampantam, dasphūņa na kampae kadhiņabhāvo |
Eso u niranukampo, aņu pacchābhāvajoenam ||
- Vịhatkalpabhāsya, 1320. That is, - One who is not moved to compassion even after seeing others suffering, pain and misery is said to be cruel. Because compassion means to be moved by others' pain and suffering.

- Nisīthabhāsya, 5633.
That is, - Cruelty is misery. PROTECTING THE LIVING IS ALSO DHARMA Jivāņam rakkhaṇam dhammo ||
- Kārtikeyānuprekṣā, 478. That is, – To protect the living beings is dharma.
Tāio pariņivvude || - Daśavaikālika sūtra, 3.15. That is, - One who protects others gets liberated. Tannāsti jīvaloke Jinendra-Devendra-Cakrakalyāṇam | Yatprāpnuvanti manujā na jīva rkṣānurāgeṇa ||
- Jñānārnava, 8.57.
That is - There are no states like the ones of Jinendra (Lord Jina), Devendra (the king of heavenly gods) or Cakravarti (the king emperor) that the merciful cannot gain as a result of protecting the living.
