The Digambara-Pattavali1 claims that during the first 683 years since Mahāvīra's death, the Suri-sequence as given on the following page in tabular form was at the head of the Jaina church. Jinasena reproduced a less dependable variant of this Sūri-list in BṛhaddHariv. I 60-65 & LXVI 22-25. There, instead of the individual numbers only the sum of years that are allotted to the various groups, has been noted down. There 220 years are claimed for D (instead of D + E), through which, then, everything else is in disarray. [24] A. Kevalinaḥ.
