Classification of Poetry
udātta-nāyakopetā pithamardopanāyakā. asyām vāsakasajjā syān
-nāyikā'thā'bhisārikā, dvipadi-kanda-geyā"ḍhyā rathya-vāsaka-tāla-yuk. layatraya-yutā lāsyadaśakena samanvitā.
īdṛśī kalpavalli syādyatha 'mānikya-vallika'.
mukhasandhi-pratimukhasandhi-nirvahaṇair yutā. udatta-varṇanótkarṣā
lalitódātta-nāyakā.
Kalpavalli is having the rasa and bhāva concerning śṛngāra and hasya. The hero is a dignified person (udātta). Pithamarda is the assistant or friend of the nayaka. The heroine is either a vāsaka-sajjā type or an abhisārikā. This art-form is graced by dvipadi, khanda-gīta, rathyā and vāsaka tempos, three types of laya (rhythm), and ten types of lasya. The illustration is "Manikya-Vallikā". It has mukha, pratimukha and nirvahana junctures. It has lofty descriptions and the hero is udatta and lalita also..
Pārijātaka (B.P. IX. 56, pp. 393, ibid) is yet another art-form not read in Bhoja. It is defined as -
