897 This follows H. and A.bh. - Thus Vāgbhasa also has both bhāņa and bhāņikā.
Sāradātanaya once again quotes elaborately from Bhoja and he also has both bhāna and bhānikā. He uses the term bhāņaka also for bhāņa as is seen elsewhere in Bhoja. Bhāna is described (pp. 379, 380, 381, 382 and 383) very elaborately. He has something more than Bhoja. The source is unknown to us. Or, in his times, these art-forms must have collected additional features as read in BP. Bhāņa for Śā. is -
"hari-hara-bhānu-bhavānī
skanda-pramathādhipa-stuti-nibaddhaḥ ('nibaddhaḥ' follows ND. This is a clearer reading and Bhoja's text should be emended to this effect). Śā. proceeds -
guņa-kīrtana-prakāśana
gāthābhir bhūbhịtām stutinibandhaḥBhoja had - dhavala-guna-kirtana-parair gāthā"rambhā”dibhis stutinibandhaḥ.
In place of 'gāthā"rambhā"dibhih, śā. has 'gāthābhir bhūbhștām'. Here 'gāthābhiḥ' is of course better than 'gāthā”rambhā"dibhiḥ'. But 'bhūbhịtām' is a fresh feature. By the time of śā., this art-form must have cultivated this additional feature also. Along with the praises of hari, hara, etc. the eulogies of kings also must have crept in. Again, BP. observes -
"gāyana-sahókti-yuktó
dāttena vibhūșitaprāyaḥ. “yuktódāttena” is better as compared to yukto dattena' in Bhoja. The śr. Pra. text could be emended to advantage. Then, BP. reads,
"tri-catura-pañca-vitālaiḥ viśrāmaiḥ saptabhiḥ paricchinnaiḥ ardhód-grāha-nivāraņa
sankhyātaiḥ kutracin niyatah." Bhoja has ‘paricchinnaḥ', which seems better. This means that Bhāņa is covered up by three, four or five vitālas, seven viśrāmas and ardhódgrāha-nivārañasamkhyā. We do not know what "ardho..." is.
