841 avāntara-prapanca-sahitam anekabhāsā-vyāmiśra-rūpam." In the A.bh. also in the above quoted passage he refers in detail to the view of some who would argue for two sub-varieties called nātikā and prakaranikā. (A.bh. G.O.S. Vol. II. pp. 434, ibid).
Sattaka : The DR. does not mention this but Bhoja mentions it. Bhoja has treated nātikā as the eleventh rūpaka-prakāra, no doubt as derived from both nāțaka and prakaraņa.
"prakaraña-nāțaka-bheda
rūpakam iha nātikā bhavati." But Bhoja does not create prakaranikā. On the other hand he holds that there is a variety similar to nātikā but it is not prakaranikā. It is called Satpaka and it differs from nātikā in the fact that it has no viskambhaka and praveśaka and that it is throughout only in one language :
“viškambhaka-praveśaka-rahito yastv eka-bhāṣayā bhavati, a-prāksta-samskrtayā
sa satrako nātikā-pratimah.” (pp. 466, Śr. Pra., ibid) Dr. Raghavan tries to explain “a-praksta-samskrtayā as (a-prākrtayā) samskrtayā.” But we do not feel that this rendering makes the meaning clearer.. Perhaps a-prākrta (bhāsayā) and a-samskrta-bhāsayā is meant here. This means it is either in prākrta or in sanskrta language. Hemacandra (pp. 444, Edn. Parikh & Kulkarni '60 reads :
"viskambhaka-praveśaka-rahito yasty ekabhāsayā bhavati a-prākṣta-samskrtayā
sa sattako nātikā-pratimah.” The Viveka does not elaborate on this. The Nātyadarpaņa also reads : viskambhaka.... a-prākṣta-samskrtayā sa sațțako nātikā (pratimah). (pratimah) is to be added.
Toțaka is found in Abhinavagupta as defined by Kohala along with sattaka, but is not found in Bhoja. Of course Sāradātanaya reads totaka along with nātikā and
