. There is scope for comparative and historical comments in the case of many Alamkāras treated in AD. But it deserves a separate effort. Dr. Parul Mandak has kindly contributed the following notes on the history and character of the Alamkāras उत्प्रेक्षावयव and उद्भेद.
उत्प्रेक्षावयव : It seems Bhamaha was first to treat this. He defines it as follows : - ___श्लिष्टस्यार्थेन संयुक्तः किंञ्चिदुप्रेक्ष्यान्चितः ।
रूपकार्थेन च पुनरुत्प्रेक्षावयवो यथा ॥ (काव्यालंकार, २.४) Like 344745 405 this Alamkāra is of a compound character. Hence perhaps and because there is a mixture of उत्प्रेक्षा, रूपक and श्लेष Vamana has regarded it as a type of संसृष्टि (काव्यालंकारसूत्रवृत्ति, 4.3.32).
