Pancakalyāņakas : Five auspicious events occurring in the life of each of the twenty-four Jinas. These are cyavana (conception), janma (birth), diksā (renunciation), kaivalya (absolute knowledge) and nirvāņa (salvation). pancakūta five-peaked shrine. pañcârgabāda : a wall having five horizontal divisions. Panca-paramesthin: The five Supreme Ones - Arhat (Tīrthankara), Siddha (liberated soul), Acārya (leader of a group of monks), Upādhyāya (reader who teaches sacred texts) and Sādhu. These are invoked by navakāra-mantra. The Arhat and Siddha (formless) are free souls. pañcaratha : a wall surface endowed with five buttresses, pancaśākā : a doorway having five jambs. pañcatirthi : a sculptural panel with five Jina images. pancāyatana : a temple complex with one principal shrine and four smaller ones on the four corners. panjara : apsidal aedicula in South Indian temples. panjara-kostha : a niche with panjara top. panjaranāsi ināsi-fronton of a panjara-kostha. parikara : a frame of an image. pata : a diagram on cloth etc. and hence Jina pata, mantra pata, Sangrahani lippanaka pata, Sūri mantrapata, Pañcatīrthīpata etc. pață : fillet-like moulding; patta or pattikā. patra : scroll or creepers. patrašakha : a doorjamb decorated with scrolls or creepers. patra-torana : arciform gateway showing a festoon of foliage and flowers. patravalli foliate scrolls. pattika : rectilinear fillet. phaggu : spring poems. phalaka : abacus (a pillar part supporting corbel). pharsakūta : miniature square shrine with pyramidal roof. picchikā : broom. : a tree of this name having triangular leaves. pista : a platform, pedestal. pitha : plinth in North Indian temples. potikā : corbel (bracket-capital). prabhāmandala : halo shown on the back of the head of deity. pradaksināpatha ambulatory path. prākāra : enclosure wall. pranala : water-chute. pipala Jain Education Intemational For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
