PREFACE
This work is based on the fourth chapter of my thesis 'A study of Šāstra-kavyas in Sanskrit literature which was submitted and approved for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the University of Delhi in 1967. Amendments, additions aud revisions have been made throughout. The Cultural study of the Dvyāśrayakāvya i.e. chapters XII-XVII were not presented in the thesis. It is completely a new addition.
I am thankful to the University of Delhi, Delhi for granting me a research scholarsbip during August, 1963 to December 1964 and the University Grants Commission for awarding me the All-India Research Fellowship during 1965.
