________________ 41 Brief Outlines Of Jainism says, अनेकात्मकम् वस्तु गोचरः । " Anekatmakam Vastu Gocharaha" i.e. "A thing has many aspects." It has also many relations with other objects which influence it. Human knowledge being limited it is not always possible to comprehend all these aspects and relations for arriving at the final judgments. Many a times we do find that what is true from one stand point may not be true from a different stand point. Nayvad therefore teaches us not to be rigid or fanatic about any point of view. It thus teaches us to be tolerant of other and even contrary viewpoint. Syadvad is the consequence of Nayavad. The grammatical meaning of the word Syad is "perhaps"but in Jain terminology it is used to suggest a possibility. Moreover, Syadvad emphasizes the fact that truth about an object or an idea ia related to many factors including the factors such as time, space, shape and intention. It is also related to education, culture and the special circumstances in which the person who is to judge is placed. Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
