Anekantvad and Its Importance In Life Part-I
Asti implies a positive aspect and its etymological meaning is "is". Nasti implies a negative aspect and means "is not". There is a third alternative called "Avaktavya" means indescribable. This implies the things which can not be either affirmed or negatived. These are the three modes in which we generally react. To these prefix Syad is attached to suggest the possibility of the thing being true or false or such which could not be described. Permutations and combinations of these three would be four namely Asti-Nasti, Asi-Avaktavyam, NastiAvaktavyam and Asi-Nasti-Avaktavyam. All our statements can be classified in these seven categories after adding the prefix Syad on order to suggest the possibility of a thing beings true or false. Thus you can avoid absolutism in your attitude towards all problems of life and try to search the inner causes of these problems.
