________________ CONFLUENCE OF OPPOSITES 297 The above are from the Holy Bible. Turning to Al Qur'an, we find : (1) “Whatever misfortune befalleth you is sont you by God" (Chap. xlii). (2) “We have created for hell many of the jions and men" (Chap. xlv. 180). (3) “He whom God shall cause to err shall have po direc tion” (chap. xiii. 33). "God misleadeth whom he will and whom he will be guideth” (chap. xvi. 95). (5) "The word which has proceeded from me most neces sarily be fulfilled when I said, "Verily, I will fill hell with jinns and med altogether" (Sura Sijda). The Hindu Scripture also has it : " He makes whomsoever he wisheg to lead up from these worlds, do good deede ; and makes him whom he wishes to lead down from these worlds, do bad deeds" (Kaush. UP. iii. 8 ; SSP. p. 212). ! The Hindu Puranas even ascribe deception to their Godhead, such as his appearing in the form of a beautiful maiden at the churning of the Ocean, when he not only deceitfully prevented the asuras (demons) from drinking the nectar to which they were entitled according to their compact with the devas (gods), but also immediately slew Rahu, who, perceiving the fraud, had managed to secure a little of the immortalising draught. Such are a few of the attributes of Divinity accord. ing to the several scriptures quoted. I donot know if Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
