nic speech. In consequence of ignorance, soul is liable to repeated births and deaths, and to the suffering and pain attendant upon them. This is the bondage; and it continues until the power to condition its circumstances is acquired by the soul. With the acquisition of mastery over its destiny, the soul becomes what is known as the 'son of God,' and ascends, emancipated and free, to the topmost part of the universe to reside there, for ever, in the enjoyment of different kinds of perfection, including those in respect of knowledge and bliss. Now, because mastery over one's destiny cannot be acquired except by the doing of the right thing at the right moment, and because the selection of the right thing and the right moment is not possible by dependence on chance, that is, without a knowledge of what is right and what is not so, it follows' that knowledge is a condition precedent to the obtainment of freedom from the liability to birth and death, known as the bondage of karma. This is precisely what Jesus said on the subject. The parables which he spoke on the occasion are very instructive in themselves. All who commit sin are the servants of sin. The principle of evil is not everlasting, but goodness is eternal. That which is merely a transitory state of existence must depart when the principle of goodness is established in the heart, for the latter is eternal. Evil is darkness, ignorance; goodness is light and wisdom; where the light of wisdom shines, darkness cannot remain. Life is the Light of Wisdom itself, and, accordingly, proclaims :
"I am the way, the truth and the light,"
